Hand-knitted mitts

$76.90

These mitts are the culmination of a year of the alpacas & sheep growing their fleece that is then carefully skirted & sent to the respective mills to be spun into yarn. Finally these luxurious mitts are each hand knitted over several hours. Currently only available in one size, to fit a small adult hand, please ensure they will fit prior to purchasing by checking the sizing instructions. Alex is working on a larger size to be ready for next autumn/winter.

Regarding the mitts made from alpaca yarn; naturally coloured, un-dyed fleece is milled in Macclesfield, Victoria by a lovely woman named Gayle. Gayle has operated her mill for over 18 years & has three generations working together. We’re lucky to be able take our girls’ fleeces to Gayle for her to work her magic. Alpaca yarn is not only exceptionally soft with a micron range of 20-28, it’s also hypoallergenic. Perfect for babies or those with sensitive skin.

Regarding the mitts made from the sheep yarn; the yarn has a character you’d expect of something made by a human being, not an industrial machine. Due to the very small mill owned by a man named Paul in NSW, the yarn does not appear like that in Spotlight or Lincraft. For this we are grateful! You may notice some inconsistencies in the knit. This is an expression of our farm, of the breeds we run & all they give us throughout the year. Naturally white, these mitts can be kept crisp or if you are a keen creative, can be hand dyed. We blend our fleeces from the Finn sheep with the East Friesians to create an everyday yarn that is good for knitting into strong garments. The Finns provide the soft lustre & the East Friesians the strength. We have loved this journey so far with the yarn & thoroughly enjoy knitting with it. We hope you do too.

Sizing: measure the circumference of your palm at the widest point, with thumb included. Your hand should measure no greater than 25cm.
